Kirk Smith, B.S. is an Instructor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Mr. Smith’s current research interests include information systems, data sharing, medical image de-identification, and hosting of cancer images and related information for public dissemination. Mr. Smith is the Co-Principal Investigator of the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) project and is responsible for its oversight and day to day operations. Prior to moving to UAMS in 2015, Mr. Smith was involved in NIH funded musculoskeletal imaging research for over 20 years and holds one patent. Mr. Smith has over 75 peer reviewed publications including research on Homo floresiensis, named the second most important discovery of the year by Science magazine. Mr. Smith is a reviewer for peer reviewed journals and conferences. Outside of work, Mr. Smith enjoys outdoor activities including backpacking, trail running, mountain biking, golf and tennis.
