Presentations from the SNM NCI Workshop: Use of PET CT in the Clinic and Clinical Trials: Quantitation for Change Analysis

Summary
This session on quantitation of PET CT for change analysis focused on the issues surrounding the analysis of the images to find changes in the patient from one imaging event to the next, be they caused by the natural progression of disease or the effects of therapy. Imaging is being incorporated in increasingly more drug trials across the spectrum of human disease. It is used from the screening and diagnostic stages through treatment and possible recurrence. It is not sufficient to read and report the imaging studies qualitatively; quantitative results can tell a story of the patient's progress or lack thereof more succinctly. They can also be pooled to be used to describe the success of a therapeutic trial for a population statistically.

The session was aimed at physicians and physicists with an interest in the use of PET CT and other imaging modalities in clinical trials and clinical medicine. A basic understanding of PET imaging principles is useful as a background for viewing this material.
