An Educational Opportunity for Basic Cancer Researchers
Dates: June 24-29, 2012
Application Deadline: February 10, 2012
| Sponsored By: | Cancer Imaging Program, NCI |
| In Partnership with: | Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN |
| American Association for Cancer Research |
Location: Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN
A Unique Opportunity:
Postdoctoral fellows and early career-level faculty in fields related to basic cancer biology are invited to apply for a special intensive course on in vivo imaging techniques. Through lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions, participants will gain experience with a wide range of imaging modalities, including advanced optical imaging, MRI, PET, SPECT, CT, and ultrasound. After this course, participants will be able to select and apply the appropriate in vivo imaging technique necessary to investigate a biological hypothesis and to interpret the resulting imaging data. Attendance is strictly limited to invited participants.
General Information:
The Cancer Research Imaging Camp will be held at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN beginning with lunch at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 24, and ending at noon on Friday, June 29, 2012. Participants must attend all sessions. Students who do not complete the entire workshop or who leave before noon on June 29 could jeopardize their institution's ability to send students the following year. Participants will be responsible for their travel to and from Nashville, TN and for a registration fee of $475.
Participant Eligibility:
The Cancer Research Imaging Camp workshop is designed for postdoctoral fellows and early career-level faculty in fields related to basic cancer biology.
Participant Selection:
Participants will be selected by the Workshop Selection Committee. Preference will be shown to investigators demonstrating a commitment to the integration of in vivo imaging into their research. The Selection Committee seeks to assemble a group of students from diverse academic and research institutions who work in a variety of cancer research areas. Women and persons from groups considered by the National Cancer Institute to be underrepresented in cancer research are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to investigators working in the United States and Canada. All selected participants will be expected to present a 5 min. synopsis of their current research at the Camp.
Accommodations:
Room and board in Nashville will be provided by the NCI at no additional cost to the participant. Participants will not have an abundance of free time, and we therefore strongly discourage the attendance of spouses and other guests.
How to Apply:
