ITEMS OF INTEREST TO THE IMAGING RESEARCH COMMUNITY:

Two new initiatives from the Diagnostic Imaging Program have received preliminary approval by the NCI. The preliminary announcements can be found at the Web site given below. The two initiatives are partially described here.

1. Title: Development and Application of Imaging in Therapeutic Studies

   Objective of Project: This initiative solicits applications that apply imaging technologies in the assessment of investigational cancer therapeutic agents. The proposed research projects will focus on the development and application of non-invasive tools for the functional or quantitative assessment of biochemical, genetic, or pharmacologic activity of specific therapeutic agents, or the defined biochemical pathway(s) in which they act.
2. Title: Small Animal Imaging Resource Programs

   Objective of Project: The objectives of the project are to provide collaboration in small animal imaging to oncology investigators and to provide for research and development of small animal imaging technologies. Improved small animal imaging facilities will enhance the use of mouse models and the integration of imaging methods into the study of the molecular bases for cancer.
